I have a Brother HL-1430 printer (USB) configured with KDE control center to print with CUPS. But everytime I do a print job the next jobs will not be printed (it may be more than one page, it's the job which counts). The next jobs appear in the print queue but they aren't printed. The command lpstat -p and the CUPS-interface in web browser shows then the error message "Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds...". The only workaround was to disconnect the USB cable and to plug-in it again. But that was annoying. I have to print a lot... I searched the Ubuntu bug database and found a patch: http://www.cups.org/strfiles/2243/cups-1.2.7-brother-no-backchannel.patch <= http://www.cups.org/str.php?L2243 <= https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/69265 The patch worked for me. I have no idea of the technical part if the patch is safe and clean but a working printer is a must for me (and others!).
