Package: hylafax-client
Version: 1:4.2.1-2
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/sendfax

sendfax accepts and processes some file types, but not others. For
example, .ps and .pdf seem to be handled fine, but .png is not processed
at all, rather being sent as a raw file.

hylafax implements its own method for determining what to do with a file
(/etc/hylafax/typerules) - but this file is not kept up-to-date with
/etc/magic, (or any other list of common file formats).

At present, the default rules shipped munge anything not found to
ascii. This means non-specified graphics files! Adding a "test for
non-printables" check at the end of /etc/hylafax/typerules would seem to
catch this, but it would be hard to code. However, here are a few:

0 string \x89PNG error PNG
0 short 0xffd8 error
>6 string JFIF error JPEG
0 short 0xd8ff error
>6 string JFIF error JPEG
0 string #FIG error FIG
