Well done, you've found the problem. There was a 4.0 libxfce4util-1
package installed. I upgraded this and I am writing this from a
working xfce 4.2 session. :-)

So now I guess you need to make something in xfce 4.2 depend on the
new version of the library.

No os-* packages. I have a few more entries but they are unrelated
(xfree-drm and gaim-encryption stuff.)
