Clearly there is a double-free() in the changed behaviour of the Debian patch. If you care about security and your production environment I strongly suggest that in line with team policy, the latest stable version of Samba is 3.0.13. (We don't support 2.2 any more). To fix this in Debian the Debian maintainer will at least need a valgrind trace of the deamon crashing, to find where the double-free is.
