I cannot reproduce this. I removed .gconf, .mozilla-thunderbird,
.fonts.cache-1, and .gconfd,
apt-get remove mozilla-thunderbird mozilla-thunderbird-locale-de
apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird mozilla-thunderbird-locale-de
This time, it asked me whether I want to import old settings, and did not
crash.
