the .ps from xpdf breaks gs 8.15, so went chasing the problem... turned out that xpdf (hence pdftops) for .pdf from OOo need the psEmbedType1Fonts opt set to no. So I set it in xpdfrc, but got either 'Bad ...' or 'Unknown...'; it took me a while, after checking the source, that the opt name was actually fine but the value must be all lowercase, ie 'yes' or 'no', while I 1st used 'No'. Likely my bad, but xpdfrc(5) should point out this requirement. Perhaps, better yet, code should be fixed to understand case-insensitively values (eg.
