Hi, I'm the original reporter of this bug.
After digging a little deeper, it appears that we can get arts working with alsa by creating a proper $HOME/.asoundrc file See this page from the alsa-project: http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/asoundrc.php?company=Generic&card=Generic&chip=Generic&module=Generic#softmix be aware that you need to change the line: pcm "hw:1,0" to read pcm "hw:0,0" Attached is my .asoundrc.
