I can confirm this on my AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (dual-core amd64/sid)[0]. The submitter's machine is also dual-core, since it is contains "X2" in the name.
I have also attached the output of "aptitude | tee aptitude-screen-weirdness" when a problem occurs. This is from TERM=xterm, using gnome-terminal 2.18.0-1. Hopefully this will provide useful insight in debugging. [0] /proc/cpuinfo may be found at http://crustytoothpaste.ath.cx/machines/stonewall -- Brian M.
