Hi Kapil, thanks for the report. I forwarded it to the mutt developers (http://bugs.mutt.org/2864), and the suggestion was to try the newly added smtp support in mutt. Unfortunately, that won't make it into etch, but you can grab a package featuring it from experimental (eventually unstable too). Does that solve your needs?
