You're probably right. Mine was empty as well, so I had to manually create "command"(string), "enabled"(bool), and "needs_terminal"(bool) and then add xchat-gnome as the command. Unfortunately, I don't know much about how gconf entries are handled during package installs. Are schemas supplied by the packages that are capable of providing them, or is there a generic package which supplies all of the default schemas?
