as with 1.3.3 zabbix does have an own watchdog which notifies the
administrator if the database goes down and also handles database
timeouts gracefully (reconnecting etc ..)

That was the stuff i was talking about ;). I think it would be better to
wait until 1.3 becomes 1.4, the next stable release instead of shipping
some script which is run from cron (which can be hacked up by anyone
pretty easy anyway). Maybe im going to add an example script with one of
the next uploads.
