Tuomo, just set up a mailer auto-reply that says "i do not support out of date ion3 development snapshots and will not respond to mails unless the first line contains the output of 'ion3 --version' and shows a date that is newer than one month old". then it doesn't matter what distributions choose to do because you can just ignore out-of-date users.
