        Only during this transition period. Initramfs is just another
 initial ram disk, and post 2.6 people won't even remember there were
 multiple formats out there.

        Not quite so simple. There is initrd, yaird, and mkinitramfs,
 different tools re preferred for different ranges of kernel versions.
