No, not at all. That's completely different.

The only thing that will work is a user-level solution, and one that
doesn't touch the existing setup (like bootlogd) is proving impossible
without kernel support, so we'll need to overhaul all /etc/init.d/*
scripts instead to add something like the lsb-init functions if we do
want logging.
