Hi, No progress with Etch or Sid, otherwise I would have closed this bug. I was already running most bits from experimental and added xserver-xorg-core. Problem still here, unfortunately. According to Michel, the issue is actually wxWidgets doing something wrong.
The rendering problem is a completely orthogonal issue, as far as I know.
