So far everything looks good in Sid. I installed the xscreensaver-gl package and I can start various GL screensavers without the machine locking up. It may be interesting to note that two weeks ago I upgraded the hardware to an IBM M50 which is a P4 @ 2.88 GHz, but I moved the Radeon video board over to it.
