It is still possible to install metacity without Gnome, ending up with "a blank chequerboard backdrop and no apparent way to do anything". No icons, no menu, nothing. <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Backspace> seems to be the only way out of it. Shouldn't this bug be of a much higher severity?
