First of all let me state that most clipboard managers out there have
serious design flaws. I have tried to explain these issues in my blog:

http://svenfoo.geekheim.de/index.php/2005-06-18/why-klipper-is-bad/

GIMP 2.3 does however implement support for the Free Desktop clipboard
manager spec (http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/ClipboardManager). A
clipboard manager that is implemented according to this spec will not
cause the problems outlined in my blog entry and still allows you to
copy and paste between applications after they have been closed.

I am not sure if this has been integrated into GNOME in the meantime. If
not, you can use the tarball available here:

http://people.imendio.com/andersca/archives/clipboard-manager-0.3.tar.gz

I have also added a workaround to GIMP 2.3 this morning that makes it
avoid using the Windows ICO format for exchanging image data over the
clipboard. This should fix the crash (which is due to a bug in
GdkPixbuf). But it doesn't fix the fact that Klipper, and obviously also
glipper and gnome-clipboard-daemon, are conceptually broken.
