Bug is specific to pbuilder environment. Doing some other checking.
Dialog is functional in pbuilder. # dialog --yesno "Linux rules?" 10 40 Gives me a yes/no selection 'window' # dpkg-reconfigure --frontend=Dialog --priority=low debconf Does not make a difference.
