It doesn't seem to work the way you seem to expect it to,
anywhere I tested it (including previous versions of
coreutils--tested on 5.2.1). Maybe it works that way on solaris?
sort -u -k 1,1M -k 2,2n -k 3
Yep, Solaris, xBSD. "-M" has meant by_date as long as I've been
using it (1997).
Interesting response, though both subjective and incorrect.
What part is subjective and incorrect?
Your assumption that -M is a little used sort flag is both
subjective and incorrect.
Maybe you've been submitting reports for too long to just say
"yup, maybe I overstated the severity"?
Not likely. It is a reflection of my use of Unix and Linux, and
that of the people I've worked with over the past few decades.
Your use obviously differs.
If you want to give people submitting bug reports a hard time
that's your prerogative, I really don't mind. But you should be
aware of the effect it will likely have on future report and
reporters. I can say that your replies have helped me understand
what might be behind Debian's relatively small market share
compared to CentOS, Fedora, and SuSE, despite a superior community
process.
