Package: rhythmbox Version: 0.9.6-6 Severity: normal Rhythmbox is not very friendly with respect to id3 tags. When I import mp3 in rhythmbox it properly reads the tags and import them in its database (as I can see in ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml).
Then, if I change the properties of some track which corresponds to an mp3 file inside rhythmbox (e.g. artist name), the rhythmdb.xml file is properly updated, but the tags on the mp3 file are erased! (I checked that with 'id3v2 -l'). Since rhythmbox, if I externally change the id3 of an mp3 file, is able to notify changes to id3 tags I can only guess a rationale for that in avoiding "undoing" my changes the next time I ran the program. But this is not an excuse: deleting user data just because they are internalized in the rhythmbox database is not acceptable. I asked a friend with another rhythmbox installation (still unstable, same version I have) to try that and he was able to reproduce the same mis-behaviour. Cheers.
