Using the KDE Network Settings control panel, change eth0 interface from DHCP to Static IP. There is also a wireless eth2 on this machine using DHCP. Disabled eth0 and created a Network Profile for the wireless connection eth2. After applying the changes, the desktop became unstable and would not restart properly (hangs) due to the loopback interface being down.
