That was the only time I see that status.  But it's almost the only
time I have a missing TTS on the terminal.  The other one I see is
while a job is being sent, so that's probably normal.
$ faxstat -h xxx -s
HylaFAX scheduler on xxx: Running

Yes.

This was an unusually challenging situation: the number I was trying
to fax to had changed, so there was no fax on the other end.  And
others in my house kept using the phone, so there were problems on
both ends.

I did finally get the fax off.

Every message indicating there would be a retry had a blank for the
time of the retry.
