I was having the same problem. Solution: remove all Xen-related packages, then install xen-linux-system-2.6.18-4-xen-686 (or another xen-linux-* package). (not sure which broken combination of packages I used first) If you install further xen-related tools, do _not_ use those which have "unstable" in their name, those are old and will probably cause trouble.
