No, they should not break - but they shouldn't change the way they are
typeset depending on the machine where this is done, either. No, nay,
never. I was under the impression that you advocated that.  If you
didn't, please take my apologies.

I am sure that upstream doesn't think that - but you cannot learn this
from some FAQ, whose authors are not the LaTeX 3 team.
