Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
I wonder what would happen if you ran "aptitude -s install" with no
more arguments. My guess is this might trigger the crash. You could also
try
aptitude -s -o 'Aptitude::Auto-Install=false' install ctsim ctsim-pentium4
, which should get directly to the broken state (if it doesn't, that's
interesting in itself). If you *can* trigger the bug with either of
these commands, please add the option
"-o 'Aptitude::CmdLine::Resolver-Debug=true'" to the command-line and
send me the output (you might have to send it directly instead of via
the BTS, although if the BTS didn't choke on the resolver dump it might
be OK with the debugging output too).
