Do you have browser.display.screen_resolution set to 0 ? That happened
when you would set the dpi to "system settings" in firefox 1.5, when
there was still an UI for this...

We probably should set the default value to 0 instead of -1... it would
use system settings instead of system settings of 96, whichever is
greater.
