the way to start the daemon manually is to use the binary in /usr/bin and run it with the option you need. I agree that a common way is to use the init script to start/stop the daemon. To simplify the manual usage of the daemon, it will be possible to have an ffproxyctl to start or stop the daemon. That's why i was thinking that the 'force-start' option will be a good compromise.
