I've been talking to the egroupware developers recently and they managed
to fix the bug. I've tried the ldapimport.php from their subversion
repository and it seems to have fixed the problem. I hope this can still
go into the debian package for Etch... since it is a nasty bug if you're
using ldap for authentication.

They have done some more fixes and released 1.2.106 which I noticed is
in Sid, probably too late for Etch???

I've tested the ldapimport.php file just by replacing the file from the
latest testing debian package with the one from their subversion repo.
