This is somewhat expected as opening a shell does not work from within the graphical frontend. I'm not really sure how we should "fix" this so short before the release. Maybe the easiest way would be to test for rescue mode and automatically fall back to the regular installer instead of the graphical one. Another option would be to just not start the shell so that people can switch consoles and chroot instead, but that would mean a string change as we would need to tell the user to do that.
