you should try closing your session ( /etc/init.d/gdm stop ) then launch only a X ( X -ac :1 ) connect an xterm ( xterm -display :1 ) back from the console, and try launching skippy in the new xterm. If you can't figure out what's grabbing, please provide me an ps auxf output.
