See https://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2898 in the openbox bugzilla; it lets you access a menu entry by the first character it its label; I think this is better than hjkl-navigation.
Perhaps hjkl-nav could be Ctrl+[hjkl]-nav? Perhaps emacs nav? IHBT that XKeycodeToKeysym does what is says on the tin. You may want to use that instead of my crufty hack.
