I use this occasion to ask: do you use a bug tracking system for upstream development (bugzilla or equivalent)? If you do, such "upstream" issues could then be reported there and a link could be established between the Debian BTS and yours. (with the bts-link magic thingie....we use this in the samba package maintenance team and that helps a lot tracking down upstream issues).
