I am sorry and I know why you would prefer that, but currently I do not want to generate or ship the /etc/default/mpt-statusd file and add some default values. I guess you still need to add the file and put in the ID number. Of course you can open a seperate wishlist bug and start a discussion there and maybe convience me or get others to agree with you, but atm I would probably mark it as wontfix.
