Package: maxima Version: 5.9.1-9 Severity: wishlist testing has libreadline5 for a while now.
Can you try to rebuild maxima using it?
It should be as simple as putting
"libreadline5-dev | libreadline-dev" in the Build-Depends
and purging libreadline4-dev from your system.
