I thought about that and did a remove --purge (including purging the data directory) and then installed boinc-client again, with the same result. It's strange that you can't reproduce the bug. I'm gonna install boinc-client on another amd64 machine I have soon and will test it there, see if that's just a hectic behaviour of my particular setup or something else :)
Turns out the other box I wanted to use for testing purpose is not available, meaning I won't be able to double check that...
