The errors that occur when checking XHTML documents seem to be caused by errors in /usr/share/xml/xhtml/schema/dtd/1.0/xhtml1-strict.dtd:

"ID", "IDREF", "IDREFS", "NAME", "NAMES", "NMTOKEN", "NMTOKENS",
"NOTATION", "NUMBER", "NUMBERS", "NUTOKEN", "NUTOKENS" and
parameter separators allowed
... and on on.
Frederic, could you say whether this is likely to be an error in the
shipped DTD file, or in the way that Epiphany is using it?
