Package: dict-foldoc Version: 20030919-5.1 Hi,
>From The Free On-line Dictionary of Computing (19 Sep 2003) [foldoc]: MTA 1. <messaging> {Message Transfer Agent}. I believe that the primary title for that meaning should be 'Mail Transfer Agent'. That term is referred to in RFC 2821, section 2.3.3: Additional mail system terminology became common after RFC 821 was published and, where convenient, is used in this specification. In particular, SMTP servers and clients provide a mail transport service and therefore act as "Mail Transfer Agents" (MTAs). [...] It seems that the "Message Transfer Agent" is the term used in X.400, which is much less relevant than SMTP. -- 2.
