Package: cpufreqd Severity: wishlist
these days, it's pretty odd to have services that don't do intelligent things like detect the configuration of a machine, or not have a GUI interface. cpufreqd (or cpufrequtils) _definitely_ needs improvement. i just installed cpufreqd on a toshiba satellite pro with a dual intel processor. the processors ran at 100%, and after 20 minutes, crashed the machine. it took several minutes for the machine to cool down enough so that sound could work again (!) i started looking carefully, and found /etc/default/cpufreqd has entries in it of MAX and MIN cpu speed. it actually says at the top of that file 'you must read /proc entries and then edit this file by hand' well... these days, that's a bit poor. a little bit of care, with sed, awk or even python or god forbid perl, would mean that those values could be read from /proc automatically, and used instead. if people don't particularly care for that, then it can be a config option / debconf question. thanks for listening. l. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux highfield 2.6.16-1-686 #2 Mon Apr 10 22:16:40 UTC 2006 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
