Yes it DID work with previous version. I didn't note the exact version
number but this laptop is brand new, and was installed with a fresh sid
on friday at which time it worked.

Dist-upgrade during the week-end broke OpenGL.

The nvidia driver is the latest from nvidia.com, file downloaded was 
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1.run, so I guess their versioning is
1.0-9746.
