I have fixed this an other minor-related bugs.

The rest is to mkdir debian/patches and place the attachments there.
The attachments contain:
00-fix-charset.patch: fixes the charset problem, by converting the
utf8 data retrieved from gmail to iso-8859-1.
01-fix-entities.patch: converts any html entity to it's right representation
02-fix-span.patch: this is the fix for this bugreport
03-update-gmail-version.patch: updates the version string to the
current gmail version, because everything seems to be working fine.
