Package: update-manager Version: 0.42.2ubuntu22-7 Priority: wishlist When update-manager shows updates it does not priorise them in any way. It would be nice if update-manager would priorise (and colorise) them based on:
- if the package is a security update or not. This is easy for stable releases (since it just needs to check if the package comes from security.debian.org), for unstable/testing is slightly more complicated, it involves checking in the changelog if there are any CVE references (regexp: (CVE|CAN)-[\d-]+)) which would mean (in many cases) that the packages fixes a security bug. Since not all maintainers add CVE references and additiona source would be checking the information from http://secure-testing.debian.net/debian-secure-testing/ like 'debsecan' does (code could be borrowed from there, BTW) - the 'priority' of the package itself. Updates for 'important' or 'required' packages are typically more important for the system than other packages (such as 'optional' or 'extra') - the 'priority' of the package changes. This would mean that the update-manager would have to download all the changes for the packages in advance (before the user selected 'details') but 'high' uploads typically mean that the user should install those first. - the number of 'bugs' fixed in the changelogs. Even better, users could set (on their preferences) which of those criteria is more important to them. Regards Javier
