Poking around in log files has revealed that gdmgreeter was segfaulting --- /var/log/messages contains the following line several times:

I was using the Industrial GDM theme. The greeter started up just fine on the first display at boot, and after logout. If someone could tell me a good way to get a core dump from gdmgreeter, I would gladly provide a backtrace. This bug may be connected with 365630 and/or 359196; I'm not sure.
