yeah, good point. i think if it's a choice between binary-compatibility with random 3rd party proprietary modules and the ability to use genuinely desirable OSS modules/patches, i'd side for the latter. i suppose if there were ample demand we could shape ./debian/rules so that one could set an environment variable to remove the ABI-changing features at build-time. sean
