Hi Ross,

0.7.x branch of fail2ban actually can't use 2.3 thus there is no any
dependency I am aware of:

*$> grep -r '2\.3' *
debian/patches/X00_rigid_python24.dpatch:## DP: Due to currently default
python2.3 we need to hardcode use of python2.4
debian/changelog:    - restricted depends on python >= 2.3
debian/README.Debian:logger -p auth.warning -t 'sshd[123]' 'Illegal user user1
from 1.2.3.4'

Thus I would deduce that that it is an issue of python-central of some
kind, and at least this is that is who is complaining:

#  pycentral pkginstall fail2ban
INFO: using old version '/usr/bin/python2.3'
INFO: using unsupported version '/usr/bin/python2.5'

According to strace of it, the only fail2ban file which is opened is
/var/lib/dpkg/info/fail2ban.list, which has not versioning information
at all. So, my guess, would be that this is safe messages produced by
pycentral to some unknown cause. I would like to close this bug or to
reassign to python-central and retitle as "INFO: noise scares users" or
smth like that. What do you think?
