Well, I had several mails with Simon to get the needed info,
unfortunately he didn't answer anymore to the question, if he
used rc1 images or daily builds. So it leaves open, if kernel
2.6.17 or 2.6.18 was used; but here is what happens:

Machine is a Sun blade 100 (sparc machine).
Sarge r4 installation image boots fine, but then lacks cd detection
(cd could not be mounted).
Etch images (rc1 or daily builds ~ 20061209, not sure) boot to the
d-i boot prompt and after pressing Enter:

        booting linux......

then machine hangs.

Could the sparc porters / kernel guys look into this?

(Ubuntu 6.06 for sparc works fine on that machine, while Ubuntu 6.10
also fails.)
