Update: Looking around in the Libvncserver rfb/rfbproto.h I see a new encoding:
#define rfbEncodingServerIdentity 0xFFFFFF25 that I believe conflicts with the old rfbEncodingBackground tightvnc encoding (evidently no longer used).
