an addendum: Josselin Mouett has just opened bug 402739 on the issue of "gst-ffmpeg containing a linking to an internal copy of ffmpeg" the two problems 402739 and 402772 are very similar; so now the d-ctte can "capture two doves with one peanut" :-) (roughly translating from an Italian adage); there is one important difference though: currently mplayer is kept forcibly out of Etch (and we are in deep freeze!) by bug 395252; whereas gst-ffmpeg is not AFAICT a.
