Gentoo does this :
./configure --prefix=/usr --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu
--mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share
--sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var/lib
--with-gihdir=/usr/share/gnuplot/gih --with-x --without-linux-vga
--without-gd --without-plot --with-png=/usr/lib --without-pdf
--without-ggi --with-readline=gnu --enable-history-file
--without-lisp-files --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu
I will test this on my debian today.
