OK ... lets pick this up again ... 1. can you verify that the problem exists if you run # icedove command from some shell/console/xterm? 2. can you verify that the problem is still there if you run # icedove -safe-mode ?? 3. Can you verify that this problem does *not* exist if you create a new user-account (linux-account) and run icedove when logged into that account?
